| I am a consultant
trauma and orthopaedic surgeon in
Coventry, specialising in lower limb
orthopaedic surgery. I have extensive
experience in hip resurfacing, I have
performed several hundred hip
resurfacings since 1995 and I try to see
all of these patients annually. I
also undertake complex hip surgery and
other lower limb arthroplasty,
particularly in younger adults where bone
preserving procedures are appropriate.
These include patellofemoral knee
replacement and unicompartmental knee
replacement.
I also deal with general
trauma and its longer-term problems. I
have always had a major interest in the
care of the injured. I was a trauma
fellow at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto,
in 1993-4, I have been an instructor and
course director for many years on ATLS
(Advanced Trauma Life Support) courses,
and I am Editor-in-Chief of INJURY, The
International Journal for the Care of the
Injured. I am a member of the British Hip
Society, the British Trauma Society, the
British Orthopaedic Research Society. I
am an examiner for the Intercollegiate
Board FRCS(Orth) exam.

I
try to offer the best possible care for all my
patients, both in the NHS Trust University Hospitals and in the
independent sector. I believe
it is important that the patient is as involved
as possible in the decision-making process when
it comes to deciding whether to undergo surgery,
and if so what operation is best for that
individual.
Patients
can find out more about hip surgery at the keepmeactive website (which
also has information about surgical techniques
for other joints and ligaments).
As
well as performing surgery, I provide
medico-legal reports in my specialist field.
My
private consulting is all organised through Oak House in
Coventry.
In March 2007 I was asked to
give evidence to the FDA Expert Panel in
Washington DC when they were considering
licencing the Cormet Hip Resurfacing for
use in the USA.

In August 2007 I was invited
to China, where I performed some hip
surgery and gave a talk on hip
resurfacing in Shanghai and Beijing. I
managed to get enough time off to go for
a walk along the Great Wall of China.
